THE SUMMONER.

Age range: Fifty-six years/25.4 sweeps by Troll calendar.

Demeanor & Appearance:

His temperament is very even, but he has a very rough edge to the way he speaks and acts. He is fond of patting people on the back or shoulder, but as he is very heavy handed, sometimes it’s painful to whoever he’s talking with. He gets straight to the point when he speaks and oftentimes rushes people to do the same, meaning he tires of conversation very easily. He’s not the type to make excuses. Despite his overall no nonsense attitude, he does joke around with those he has known for a long time or those he has come to respect.

He has the same stoic look on his face as the Sufferer, except his brows are naturally raised up. He has a well muscled yet scarred body. He has a broad chest and shoulders. His back is slightly arched when he stands completely relaxed, his hands curled into half-fists. Considering his height (he’s about six feet and some change), he is used to looking down his nose at others rather literally.

Attire:

His scheme of dress is based around earth tones and colours. His clothes and body are a testament to the battles he has been through. His standard outfit (unscathed) consists of a sash tied from his left shoulder and crosses over to his right hip. The sash is made of leather and holds a knife on his chest. He wears a skirt that falls to the middle of his shins. The material is made of a thick cloth that falls down the sides of his legs. A separate fabric covers the front of his legs which is made out of animal fur.

He has a necklace made out of animal fangs. When he’s barefoot he also has anklets on both legs made of smaller fangs. He doesn’t typically wear a tunic or any sort of shirt.

THE WARRIOR.

At the age of eighteen, the Summoner joined a special fighting division for beast masters or those who could communicate with animals. He served in the army during the previous King’s ruling, and when Dolorosa took the throne herself, he continued to train and began his rise through the ranks. He trained with the strongest land creatures he could find to better his strength and with the most stubborn to increase his persuasive abilities. The battles he actually took part in with his division alone were easy to end, but he always walked away with a few scars. By the age of twenty-five, he had reached the third highest rank in his fleet. The stress that he endured paid off once again two years later when he was promoted after the second-in-command died. After an unexplained absence, the Summoner was put through four years’ worth of trials to restore his fallen honour. Not only did he take to each and every challenge, he came out on top and became the leading commander for the beast master unit.

As the commanding flagship of the beast fleet, he has trained dozens of wild animals to fight at his side when ready. Despite the fact that he can command these beasts, he is unable to tend to every single injured animal under his employ. This has caused him to relent to gaining the help of his troll brethren. The reaction to news of the Summoner letting in trolls into his army spread like wildfire. Veterinarians were the first to be taken on board as they were the original target of the Summoner’s interest.

He’s a proud man and very relentless in battle, but these does not mean that he follows the “Take no prisoners” mindset of many other captains. He does believe in the “Never say die” rule as he has seen power come out of those in a desperate situation. He has led his fleet to victory numerous times. He has only had to retreat a handful of times. In those cases, he was preferring the health and well-being of his men and beasts over a foolhardy victory. Though he has trolls in his army, he is still considered head of a “beast fleet”. He has worked side by side with the main troll army several times in dire situations.

Currently, in times of peace, he is considered “retired”. He still trains younger warriors to carry in his steed to replace his older fighters who wish to settle with their families or are too wounded to continue serving in the King’s army. For twenty or so years, the Summoner had been a proud warrior.

NOT JUST A FIGHTER.

He would recall his years as a ladies’ man with an air of wistfulness. The first meeting was a thing of chance, but the others were very suspicious. When he was in his beginning ranks as a solider, the Summoner ran into a woman who was out hunting. Where the Beast division trains, there are many wild animals and is far away from the Troll Kingdom. He never thought to see her, Marquise Spinneret Mindfang. She was infamous to everyone in his Kingdom, and she was unmistakable. He laid eyes on her and saw that she was beautiful. She looked to him and flashed him a devious, knowing smile. She tossed her knife idly up and down in her palm. There was something about her relaxed nature that seemed to be arrogant, even from the distance he was, but he couldn’t look away. He had too soon enough, however, as his attention was taken away by a beast that nudged his side.

He had reason to believe that he would never see her again, that their first meeting (if it could be called that) was an isolated moment in time and nothing more. This was not so. Mindfang broke into the Kingdom’s palace, stealing many valuable items. She managed to escape the court guards that tried to chase after her, but on her way out, she was detected by one of the lesser palace attendants. The Summoner and a couple of others were sent out to scout for her with scent-sniffing creatures. The Summoner was actually the one to find her. He was taken by her nonchalance and how she treated her theft and pursuit much like a game. They shared banter for a short while, but she told him that they would, undoubtedly see each other again.

She kept her word as they began to see each other on and off again outside of the Kingdom grounds for years. One night, Mindfang managed to get her way inside of his house, waiting from him when he returned from his training. By this time, he was third-highest in his division and had earned his fair share of scars to show for it. This intrigued and attracted Mindfang even more. There were two more visits like this that were spread out over a couple of months. The final time she visited his house, the two spent the night together and decided the following morning that they would have to get the Summoner out of the Kingdom if they ever wanted to be together. They never got the opportunity to exact their plans until a couple of years later when the Summoner was once again promoted by death of his higher up. The two ran away together without a single word to those in the Summoner’s fleet.

Their relationship was fiery, passionate but very unstable. Through his relationship with Mindfang, he has learned to relent just to for the sake of peace without compromising himself. He also learned that there are times when it’s fine to walk away from a situation and that there are times where he has to fight to the bitter end just to defend himself even if the cause wasn’t one hundred percent worth fighting over in the first place. He managed to accrue more scars from his wild love affair with the pirate.

THE FATHER.

He is raising Tavros alone. He teaches Tavros to be strong and just to trolls and animals alike. He trains Tavros in the art of fighting and beast mastery. As a parent, it actually took him a long time to be understanding to Tavros’ gentle nature. The Summoner, himself, is a man of war so having a son who is naturally so giving reminds him of the Sufferer. He has actually sought the Sufferer’s advice several times before on what to do. Through the advice given to him and through his own experimentation, he has developed a lovingly awkward relationship with his son.
